RICHMOND, BC (May 29, 2015)
Singer-songwriter Brian Wilson is gearing up for his North American tour which will include a date at the River Rock Casino Resort on Friday, July 24, 2015.
It was in 1961 when Wilson co-founded The Beach Boys releasing numerous classics including “Surfin’ Safari”, “Surfin’ U.S.A.” and “Surfer Girl”. Wilson decided in 1964 that he no longer wanted to tour with the group but instead chose to dedicate all of his energy to writing and producing their records. The hits kept coming with such chart-toppers as “Dance, Dance, Dance”, “Help Me, Rhonda” and “California Girls”. In 1966, he produced the group’s eleventh album, Pet Sounds which many today consider to be “The Great American Pop Album”. The album spawned the hit singles, “Sloop John B”, “Wouldn’t It Be Nice”, “God Only Knows” and “Caroline, No”.
Wilson has been presented with numerous accolades and awards. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and together with The Beach Boys, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2005, he earned a Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance for his song, “Mrs. O’Leary’s Cow”. Two years later, he was presented with the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors for Lifetime Contribution to the Performing Arts. He went on to earn his second Grammy Award in 2013 for Best Historical Album for The Smile Sessions.
The upcoming tour coincides with the release of his most recent album, No Pier Pressure which includes the hit singles, “The Right Time”, “Runaway Dancer” and “On the Island”. The album also features performances by a number of guest artists including She & Him’s Zooey Deschanel, Sebu Simonian, Kacey Musgraves and Fun’s Nate Ruess. Also appearing are original Beach Boys members Al Jardine and David Marks along with former band member Blondie Chaplin. Last month, Wilson was a guest on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live where he performed the album’s opening track, “This Beautiful Day” and closing track, “The Last Song”.
Tickets go on sale on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 10:00 am and are $79.50 & $69.50 (plus service charges). For more information and to purchase tickets, go to RiverRock.com.
