Great Canadian acquires Haney Bingo Plex in Maple Ridge, BC.

Great Canadian completes the redevelopment of Hastings Racecourse in Vancouver, adding a 600-slot permanent gaming facility – modernizing and improving the entertainment value of Hastings while creating new patronage.

■ In conjunction with the closure of the Casino at the Holiday Inn on Broadway in Vancouver, Fraser Downs Racetrack & Casino makes a calculated roll of the dice and adds table games to its gaming options in Surrey. ■ Bear Mountain Community Gaming Centre relocates to a new location and starts fresh as Chances Dawson Creek Community Gaming Centre.
  • Great Canadian expands across the country, acquiring Casino Nova Scotia Halifax and Sydney; and two racetracks in Ontario, Georgian Downs and Flamboro Downs.
  • In British Columbia, Great Canadian acquires Fraser Downs Racetrack & Casino in Cloverdale.
  • River Rock Casino Resort becomes the first flagship property of Great Canadian Gaming Corporation, adding a Four Diamond, AAA rated hotel with two towers, 204 suites, and a 1,000 seat show theatre that features the best and brightest in entertainment.

GAGC acquired outstanding interest in POD.

GAGC acquires outstanding interest in O’Aces in Kent, WA.

Grand Central Casino, Inc. (GCCI) is incorporated.

Grand Central Casino Lakewood and Tukwila become Great American Casinos.

The Richmond Casino and the Renaissance Casino close, transferring their licenses and operations to River Rock Casino Resort.

  • Grand Central Properties Everett LLC is formed in Washington State.
  • EEC purchases the Lakewood property through Grand Central Properties Tacoma LLC.
  • Construction is completed on Grand Central Casino in Tukwila - using the license from the Riverside Casino operation.
  • Great American Gaming Corporation (GAGC) is incorporated.
  • EEC completed the construction of and opened Grand Central Casino in Lakewood, WA.
  • GAGC acquired 50% ownership in Evergreen Entertainment Corporation (EEC) in Washington State.

■ British Columbia Lottery Corporation assumes oversight of all casinos in the province. ■ Great American Gaming Corporation (GAGC) is incorporated & Casino Nanaimo is relocated.


Gaming in British Columbia is expanded to include longer hours, a wider variety of table games, and for the first time – slot machines.

Great Canadian Gaming Corporation is created on March 15, 1997.

Great Canadian Casinos Inc. is incorporated July 9, 1997.
