In the spirit of supporting the local community, a team of River Rock Casino Resort employees rolled up their sleeves and helped The Sharing Farm Society with two of their major summer projects.
“A group of executives cleared a trail through a woodlot on the farm which was used for The Faerie Play – a children’s play, and on another occasion a second River Rock team sorted and cleaned 300 pounds of organic garlic in preparation for our Annual Garlic Festival. The contribution of these teams was instrumental in the success of both of these projects,” said James Gates, Executive Director, The Sharing Farm Society.
The Sharing Farm grows food to feed Richmond families in need. The farm is run by community members, volunteers and a small core of part-time staff that is dedicated to growing fresh, healthy, local produce.
“Having our River Rock team engage with a local organization on this level allows us to do good things in our community especially when the Farm provides thousands of pounds of fruits and vegetables every year for community meals at the Richmond Food Bank,” said Karsten Purbs, Director, Food and Beverage, River Rock Casino Resort.
In addition, River Rock is supporting the farm by purchasing their available organic produce on a weekly basis and featuring the items on restaurant menus at Tramonto, Buffet, Curve and the Food Court. “Our food and beverage team is excited to work with the high quality organic foods grown locally in Richmond,” Purbs added. The team is also exploring the option of producing its own compost and providing a portion of it to the farm, which will aid in the growing process and complete the cycle of produce, consume and recycle.
